The vineyards

We cultivate our vineyards by limiting yields and environmental impact to obtain quality wines

The grapes of our vines

The 23 hectares of vineyards which are enrolled in the Register of Controlled Origin “Colli Piacentini, Ortrugo and Gutturnio” produce both white and red grapes. The cultivated white grapes are those ones that make up Monterosso Val d’Arda: Malvasia di candia aromatica, Moscato bianco, Ortrugo, Trebbiano romagnolo, Sauvignon and Chardonnay.

According to the relationships established by the specification, a blend of these grapes can give Monterosso, or some of these vinified in purity after a selection during the harvest give rise to their own monovarietal doc wines such as Ortrugo, Malvasia, Chardonnay and Sauvignon. The red grapes are those of the Gutturnio grapes: Barbera and Bonarda, to which are added Pinot nero, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot.

The environment and the land of our vineyards

The vines are cultivated on hilly terrain with medium clay. The vineyards are located on land extending between 130 and 200 m, with slopes and exposures able to ensure a good maturation of the grapes.

Over the last fifteen years, the replanting of most of the old vineyards has been carried out, maintaining a density per hectare above 3500 plants, the first factor to ensure good production quality; we took care of choosing the most suitable clones to make good quality at the expense of production.

Always on the side of the environment

Since 1994, the Pusterla winegrowing company adheres to an integrated fighter plan that involves limiting the use of fertilizers and pesticides. The soil is handled permanently in order to ensure a better natural balance, less degradation of organic soil and a better vegetative balance of the vines.
